Peach Rice Pudding, also called Peach Ki Kheer … a delicate, refreshing and creamy pudding topped with dripping juicy peaches… who wouldn’t love it? Peach Rice Pudding is delicious when warm or cold as a dessert. It is so light and healthy that you can indulge in it without feeling a one bit guilty. Alternatively, Peach Rice Pudding makes delicious breakfast  substitute for oatmeal, porridge or cereal.

Peach Rice Pudding - Peach Ki Kheer

Peaches are one of my most favorite fruits. We are very fortunate to have the best peaches in abundance in late summer to early fall season. I try to make the most use of peaches, while they are in season, by making Peach Rice Pudding, Peach Jam, Peach Fruit Crisp, Peach Lassi, Peach Milkshake and even stick some slices of fresh peach in my morning toast. Have you ever tried a toast with a thin spread of ricotta cheese drizzled with honey and topped with fresh peach slices?

Peaches make a delicious combination with milky rice pudding. Feel free to use frozen or canned peaches if fresh ones are not available to you. Remember to adjust the sugar quantity if using canned peach as they are preserved in sugar syrup. I keep the Peach Rice Pudding simple without adding too many spices or nuts. I prefer to maintain the taste of rice, milk and peaches without overpowering the with spices. I also suggest using the short grain rice for thick and creamy rice pudding.

  4. Rinse and soak rice in plain water for 30 minutes. I prefer to use short grain rice like Arborio. Arborio rice releases starch during cooking process which makes a really nice thick and creamy rice pudding.
  5. In the meantime, in a large heavy-bottomed saucepan, pour milk. Add sugar and bring milk to a boil.

  6. Drain rice and add to the milk. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir frequently. Cook uncovered until rice has been cooked thoroughly and pudding has thickened; for about 40 minutes.
